Making Kitchen Cabinets
Watching
Paul Levine will convince you that creating a beautiful kitchen is as
easy as building one simple cabinet several times over.
Levine's system saves time, anticipates mistakes and allows for
corrections. All you need is access to a small workshop with a table
saw a router and some common hand tools.
What's more, your cabinets will be as handsome as they are strong,
featuring sleek lines, hidden hinges, colorful laminated surfaces and
warm wood trim.
By watching Levine you'll learn how to:
Laminate plastic to plywood for easy-to-clean surfaces
Cut tongue-and-groove joints to assemble the cases
Rout dovetails for sturdy, solid-wood drawers
Install trouble-free drawer slides and adjustable hinges.
You see firsthand how a professional builds a quality cabinet in a
small basement workshop. That's valuable information when you consider
the cost of a kitchen remodel these days. And pages from Levine's
companion book, Making Kitchen Cabinets, are referenced in the corner
of the video screen. Also see the video, Installing Kitchen Cabinets
& Countertops.
For 10 years, Paul Levine has operated his own woodworking business
in Sherman, Connecticut. He is the author of Contemporary Woodworking
Projects and has written for both Fine Homebuilding and Fine
Woodworking magazines.

Making Rustic Furniture
There's
a long American tradition of furniture made directly from raw twigs or
sticks.
Making Rustic FurnitureThere's a long American tradition of furniture made directly
from raw twigs or sticks. American willow-twig furniture and the
Adirondack style are well-known types. Paul Ruhlmann teaches and works
in a style that's closer to Adirondack. He gathers saplings of red
maple and buckthorn (he's does his New England environment a favor by
culling these invasive trees), peels them, joins them (he's invented a
tool that makes instant tenons on sticks), and finishes them simply.
Ruhlmann makes all sorts of furniture, but especially beautiful chairs
with refined Shaker lines and woven seats that have a bit of the
frontier about them.
This video will teach you the entire process, including how to
select the parts of your project from raw sticks and how to steam-bend
posts when necessary; as well as making the joints, finishing and
weaving.
If you can build a case for your drawers then you can build drawers
-- they’re both box-building exercises. But, what kind of drawers
should you build -- which joinery and what kind of mounting in the
case? Gary Rogowski, noted furniture maker and teacher of woodworking
in Portland, Oregon, shows you how to think and build your way through
this problem.
You’ll learn how to assemble plywood drawers (utility drawers for
the shop and better-quality kitchen-cabinet-type drawers) made with:
simple rabbet joints on the table-saw or router
dado-rabbet joints
"drawer-lock” joints on the router
and mounted:
with the "bottom-runner" method
with center-glides in face-frame cabinets
with side-mounted mechanical drawer glides
Mission Style Bed Video and Plan
This
project plan includes dimensions for both: full and queen size
mattresses (standard size plus the non-standard oversize).
You'll see how to apply stains and glazes to both softwoods and
hardwoods. You'll learn about polyurethane varnish and the new
water-based varnishes. You'll also see how to wipe on finish with a
rag and how to spray. The heart of the tape shows you how to brush on
a flawless varnish finish.
Dresdner and his friends explain how to:
Select the right finish
Prepare the surface
Stain and glaze to get the color you want
Apply the new water-based varnishes
Brush varnish perfectly
Rub out the top coat
Michael Dresdner, of Easton, Pennsylvania, is a senior consultant and
engineer for Martin Guitar. He has written and lectured extensively on
wood finishing, and is the author of the companion book, The Wood
finishing Book.
In this tape you'll discover the basics of woodcarving, see how to

Selecting and sharpening carving tools
Carving roman and italic letters
Relief carving
Outlining
Molding (bordering)
Back grounding
